Sentier du Bastidon precise itinerary
1. Departure from Colle de l’Olivier
The trail starts nearAiguines, at Colle de l’Olivier. Right from the start, the path gradually descends into a typical Verdon landscape of pine trees and limestone rocks.
We soon reach a natural balcony overlooking the Gorges. The view is breathtaking: the sheer cliffs and turquoise waters of the Verdon below offer an exceptional panorama.
2. Passage through Ravin de Mainmorte
After about 3 km of walking, we reach the Mainmorte Ravine, a steep passage where the trail becomes more technical.
Here, the terrain is more rugged, with a few passages over rocky slabs. Sometimes you have to use your hands to make headway. But the beauty of the landscape is well worth the effort!
💡 Tip: walk carefully on aerial sections and avoid hiking after rain (risk of slipping).
3. Crossing the Plateau du Suech
After the ravine, the path climbs slightly and skirts a semi-arid plateau, the Plateau du Suech. This section is more rolling, ideal for catching your breath and enjoying the panorama.
Here we pass through an ancient forest of oak and boxwood, typical of the Mediterranean climate. In some places, you can still see the remains of old sheepfolds and dry-stone walls, evidence of ancient pastoral activity.
4. Approach to Belvédère de Mayreste
After 8 km, we reach one of the finest viewpoints on the route: the Belvedere at Mayreste. This promontory offers a spectacular view of the Gorges, with the Verdon winding its way below between the immense limestone cliffs.
It’s an excellent spot to take a break and take photos before starting the last part of the hike.
5. Descent to Chalet de la Maline
After the lookout point, the trail begins a gradual descent towards the Chalet de la Maline, a well-known refuge for Verdon hikers.
The last few kilometers are technical, with some steep, rocky sections. But the finish at the Chalet de la Maline, perched on the cliffside, offers an incredible view of the Gorges and amply rewards the effort.
🚗 Return trip: Don’t forget to organize a return trip (shuttle or vehicle left on arrival), as this is a crossing.
