Itinerary Précis du Sentier Blanc-Martel
1. Departure from Chalet de la Maline
Departure is from the Chalet de la Maline, a mountain hut high above the Gorges du Verdon. Right from the start, a steep descent takes you down to the canyon, joining the river after a 30-minute walk.
The path then alternates between shaded sections under vegetation and open sections offering superb panoramas of the cliffs.
2. Descent to the Verdon and Passage du Pas d’Issane
After a 2 km hike, the trail follows the Verdon up close, crossing several scree slopes and rocky areas. The Pas d’Issane, a spectacular passage overlooking the river, allows you to admire the 700-metre-high cliffs.
The trail then continues uphill and downhill, punctuated by a few passages equipped with handrails and metal staircases.
3. Les Échelles de la Brèche Imbert
After a 6 km walk, we reach one of the most impressive parts of the hike: the Échelles de la Brèche Imbert.
This is a 252-step metal staircase, installed to enable hikers to overcome a steep gradient. The descent can be vertiginous, but the equipment is solid and safe.
💡 Tip: Take your time and hold on tightly to the ramp for a safe descent.
4. Passage du Gué de l’Imbut and Tunnel du Baou
After the ladders, the trail again winds between cliffs and rivers, passing through several wooded areas and rocky beaches where you can take a break and dip your feet in the water.
Around 11 km on, we reach the Tunnel du Baou, a 110-metre-long underground passage. It’s completely dark, so you’ll need a headlamp to cross it safely.
5. Arrival at Point Sublime
The last few kilometers are a gradual climb to the finish at Point Sublime, a spectacular lookout offering a panoramic view of the exit from the Gorges du Verdon.
🚗 Back to top : If you’ve left your car at Chalet de la Maline, remember to arrange a shuttle or leave a second vehicle at Point Sublime. In summer, a paid shuttle service is available for hikers.
