Less than an hour from your campsiteThe town of Entrecasteaux awaits you with its beautiful, imposing château surrounded by magnificent gardens.
The privately-owned, 11th and 17th-century château is inhabited and open to the public. Richly furnished and decorated, it features numerous period documents, tapestries, furniture and paintings. The rooms reflect the different periods in its history: a Louis XIV salon, an Empire salon, a Baroque music salon, an Oriental suite, etc.
You can also discover other original rooms such as the ancient kitchens, the cabinets of curiosities and the dungeons. The formal garden adjoining the château was laid out according to designs inspired by Le Nôtre.

In fact, it was Le Nôtre who gave the Marquise de Sévigné the plans and sketches of the Orangery garden at Versailles so that it could be reproduced at the Château d'Entrecasteaux.
It is thought that this fortress was originally built in the 11th century. After being destroyed, it was rebuilt in the 13th century. However, most of the features visible today date from the 16th and 17th centuries.
After having passed through several owners, and having been saved during the Revolution thanks to a priest, the château is now owned by Mr Alain Gayral, who is constantly embellishing the château through exemplary restoration work.
Built on a natural promontory, Château d'Encastreaux has the look of a bastide town, with its harmonious proportions. With its soberly decorated facades and wrought-iron balustrades, it has the architectural character of a proud fortress. Numerous openings towards the 4 points of the compass give the interiors plenty of light and highlight the spacious rooms. To the north, the château opens onto a large terrace, while the south facade, facing the village, overlooks vast formal gardens.
As well as the castle and gardens, you can stroll along the pretty streets of this pretty village of Provence before you return, delighted with your visit to your campsite "to the valleys.
